Gmatprep : which one ?

Akela, Thank you for your link, it was really interesting ! Actually, you're right. I bought the Official guide and I'm actually working with it! After tried the different websites, I don't think I will invest in the Veritas and Manhattan prep programmes.

Actually, I would like to reach 650, at least. If it's exactly 650, that's good too.
For the exam date, I was thinking about December. I'm not afraid by working hard. If I must work 5hours a day, I will do it.
I would like to apply in January or March, it depends of the deadlines, for the next scholar year.
I was thinking about Duke, Fordham, HEC, McGill and those kind of universities.

Since you are not planning to apply to School until early next year, you have plenty of time to study and improve - which is good. A Score Goal of 650+ in that timeframe is certainly achievable, so the question at this point is really about how 'efficient' you want to be with your studies. You do not have to 'rush' at this point, so you can proceed however you choose - and adjust your plans if you need to after a month or two of study - or find a Study Plan and Course right now that fit your personality.

"Review" is an exceptionally important part of the GMAT training process; your ability to define WHY you're getting questions wrong is essential to defining the areas that you need to work on (and the specific things that you need to 'fix'). As such, I'd like to know a bit more about your first CAT. While a full Mistake Tracker would provide a lot more information, there are some basic questions that you should be able to answer (and the more EXACT you can be with your answers, the better):

After reviewing each section of this recent CAT, how many questions did you get wrong....
1) Because of a silly/little mistake?
2) Because there was some math/verbal that you just could not remember how to do?
3) Because the question was too hard?
4) Because you were low on time and had to guess?
5) How many Verbal questions did you 'narrow down to 2 choices' but still get wrong?

Welcome to GMATCLUB. You should dedicate around 3 months to improve your score. It's a good thing that you have given a GMAT Mock once. You now know your weaknesses and can work on them. If you are willing to study dedicatedly for three months, you are sure to achieve your goal. I agree with you that may benefit from taking a GMATPREP course.

In order to make an informed decision I would highly encourage you to go to their websites and try on their free trial and decide for yourself which one do you like better. You try out free access to EmpowerGMAT, Magoosh and Optimus Prep as they have great reviews on GMATCLUB.

Also for verbal, I would highly encourage you to consider e-gmat verbal online or the e-gmat verbal live course. They are both amazing courses especially designed for non-natives. They offer almost 25% of their courses for free so you can try out their free trial to decide which one you want to go for. Plus the e-gmat Scholaranium which is included in both the courses is one of the best verbal practice tools in the market. You can easily track your progress in that you can identify your strengths and analyze and improve on your weak areas.

You can also use MGMAT guides for your preparation. MGMAT guides are phenomenal and cover the entire syllabus really well. I must add that if you are particularly looking to discover and improve on your weak areas in quant; a subscription to GMATCLUB tests is the best way to do that. They are indeed phenomenal and will not only pinpoint your weak areas but also help you improve on them.

Further taking multiple mocks might help. Apart from the GMATPREP, Manhattan GMAT tests and Veritas Prep Tests in my experience have a good verbal and Quant section and will certainly help you point out and improve your weak areas.

Further another advantage of taking many mocks is to build up your stamina. Apart from the GMATPREP tests, taking practise tests of any major GMATPREP company ought to do that.

I would also encourage you to purchase the GMATPREP QP 1 for some great additional practice. Here is a link that will help you with your decision.

So, 560 cold is not a bad starting point. That being said, in addition to seeking out opinions on this thread, you should read some of the success stories of past GMAT students as well as reviews of various GMAT prep courses to see what prep materials have worked for other test-takers.

If you are a non-native speaker, quant word problems might give you some trouble as well. Math Revolution has a technique called the IVY Approach to tackle some difficult word problems. For example, Math Revolution offers a series of formulas and equations for students to learn before the exam to apply to word problems. If a question states "x is m percent of y", you can easily rewrite this into x=m(1/100)*y without dissecting problems. We found out there are words that GMAT likes to use repeatedly. If you know the formulas to rewrite certain expressions beforehand, you will be able to tackle word problems easier. Our IVY Approach provides students with many more techniques and tips to solve quant questions easily, with speed and accuracy.
