(C). For parallelism, it has to be either C, D or E. D is ruled out because of non-parallel construction. E can be ruled out because there is no conjunction between the last two actions that the snake does (The snake puts on a show my hissing, broadening, ...)

Wow... you guys are pros :good

Yes, the OA is indeed C.

Ok, so my question is regarding E... could someone give a bit more detailed as to why E is wrong? It was between C & E for me... and I couldn't definitively decide. For C, I felt that the "it" at the end could have referred to the hognose or the cobra.

Thanks in advance.

parallelism error- I never get the distinction between superficial parallelism and real parallesim

C- hissing, broadening, feigning . "It" refers to the hognose snake
-->and feigning implies that this one is done by cobra as well. Original sentence does not imply that

E-hissing, broadening, feigning .

Pick E

Exactly Heman. "It" made the biggest difference in selecting (C) here.

What does "it" refer to in C?

I am still not convinced how it is C and not E

Can someone explain this please

Its C.
Here, but is introducing another independent clause and indicating a contrast with the original sentence.

The hognose snake puts...but it has...
So,it has to refer to snake.

Dont get confused with the cobra in the broadning sentence.

That is part of a separate parallelism ie hissing, broadning and feigning. And is important to show that the sequence is over with the last element.

What follows but is part of a separate parallelism.

Makes sense.
