Should i retake GMAT?

Should i retake GMAT? [#permalink] New post   11 Nov 2019, 17:54
I scored a 750 in my GMAT today (verbal - 41, Quant - 50) but got a really poor score in IR (4). I don't how what happened? (My section were not really going well probably that was on my mind).

Will this be a red flag to the ADCOM? I am planning to apply to top US colleges and LBS for R2.

Welcome to Gmatclub. Congratulations for 750. Yes, it is bit awkward to score Q50 and IR4 :) You can re-take if the time allows you and try to score GMAT same or above. As per me, IR 6 will also be fine. Else, you can explain via some reason to ad-com in optional essay.

I personally would not bother taking the GMAT again just to improve the IR score. Btw, congratulations on getting a 750 on the GMAT. munter - I am sorry to hear your GMAT score wasn't something your expected. Hi abhi1131,

Welcome to GMATCLUB and Congratulations on a 750. With regard to your IR score, I have learned that a couple of Top US schools such as Tuck do look at IR scores and infact publish an average of IR as well. Insead business school for example expects an IR score of 6 and above so if you do plan to apply to Insead you should consider addressing your IR score in optional Essay just to be on the safer side.

However note that a low IR score might hurt your chances if you have a low Quant score as well. As your Quant score is very good, you shouldn't worry too much about it.

Thanks everyone for the responses! Looks like I would be fine :) If needed I can use optional essays to clarify

Makes sense! I am not applying to Tuck or INSEAD. I am planning to apply to Sloan, LBS, HAAS, Booth and Kellogg. rohan2345 Any idea if these schools look at IR?

Hi abhi1131,

First off, a 750/Q50 is an outstanding Score, so you can comfortably apply to any Business Schools that interest you. Your IR4 will likely have NO impact on your applications, so a retest is almost certainly NOT necessary. You've named some highly-competitive Schools though, so you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Hi abhi1131,

I do not think it will matter much. You have a great Quant score and a fantastic overall score. You are in a great position to apply to these schools. Just make sure you put the strongest app forward and you should make it to atleast one of these schools.
