The new reality shows enable television stations to garner [#permalink]
Expert Reply
MEANING, STYLE

The new “reality shows” enable television stations to garner high ratings without the costly requirements of writer compensation and utilization of demanding actors by traditional television show formats.

A) requirements of writer compensation and utilization of demanding actors by traditional television show formats ------- Sentence is correct but extremely wordy. Whenever too many prepositional phrases are used, the sentence is stylistically deficient.

B) requirements by traditional television show formats of utilization of demanding actors and writer compensation ------- Also correct but even more unorganized than the first sentence. The main modifier "of utilization...." , which contains the main description of the requirements, is placed very far away from the noun "requirements".

C) requirements for utilization of demanding actors and writer compensation of traditional television show formats ------ "requirements for" is incorrect.

D) utilization of demanding actors and writer compensation that is required by traditional television show formats ------- "that is required" is in the wrong number, as it is referring to a list "utilization and compensation".

E) writer compensation and utilization of demanding actors that are required by traditional show formats --- CORRECT
