B is the answer.

2x+6y = 7
implies
x+3y=7/2=3.5---A
now if m=-3
means
x+3y=-2---B
so
A says x+3y=3.5
and B says x+3y=-2 so same equations are equal to different values so inconsistent and hence no solution

For an equation in the form of ax+by=c, we know that if
a1/a2 = b1/b2 and not equal to c1/c2 then the system of equations will have no solution.

Hence 2/1 = 6/-m gives m=-3 as well as not equal to c1/c2 ie 7/-2.

or, right answer is Option B.

Solution



Given
In this question, we are given that
    • Two simultaneous equations: 2x + 6y = 7 and x – my = -2

To find
We need to determine
    • The value of m for which the given equations will have no solution

Approach and Working out
The equations will have no solution if the ratio of the coefficients of the variables will not be equal to the ratio of the constant terms
    • Hence, 2/1 = 6/-m
    Or, m = -6/2 = -3

Thus, option B is the correct answer.
