The electronics manufacturer announced that while earnings grew by 5% [#permalink]
The electronics manufacturer announced that while earnings grew by 5% in the last quarter, revenue decreased whereas it might have been expected for it to rise.

(A) it might have been expected for it to rise
- here, the demonstrative pronouns 'it' can have two possible antecedents: manufacturer and revenue.

(B) it might have been expected to rise - has no error. hence, (B) is the right answer choice.

(C) it might have been expected that it should rise
- when we expect an event to occur, we assign a greater probability to our expectation of that event. 'should' is a mere suggestion word and hence cannot be used to highlight an expectation.

(D) its rise might have been expected
- the possessive pronoun ''it's'' has two possible antecedents: manufacturer and revenue.

(E) there might have been an expectation it would rise
- the pronoun 'that' is missing here.
