Hello,
I will have a Masters of Healthcare Administration from a top 5 school (US News). I am not pursing a dual degree because I came from straight out of undergrad into my masters as a way to pivot into the business side of healthcare after my social science undergrad degree. I am going to do an administrative fellowship at a hospital system for a year or two (maybe healthcare consulting as a secondary avenue). Ideally I want to work for 2-3 solid years as an admin fellow and then apply to an MBA program. Is this a reasonable path to an MBA program? Would this hurt my applications to T15 schools? I see the norm is doing a dual MHA/MBA, but I really want to go to a top business school after getting solid work experience and make my way to the C-suite.
Hey,
If you look at the average work ex of T15 MBA class profiles, you'll find the average work ex is around 5 years. By this stat alone you should work for 3-4 years before applying for an MBA program. Moreover, working full time offers you the practical knowledge of working in the industry sort of getting your hands dirty. This experience is valuable because you can ue MBA either to excel in your current industry/function or to change it considerably. But this will only happen if you have decent work experience.
Along with this, you may also work on improving other aspects of your profile such as extracurriculars, community involvement, GMAT score, leadership experience and so on.
Hope this helps. See you in a few years. Good Luck!
Best,
