Can you properly link your experience with what you want to do post-graduation? I know a pharmacist who eventually landed a job in equity research for the health science sector. It all depends on whether you can show why you do an MBA for and link it with your background.

Can you describe some of the research? Did you work as a team? Did you work closely with a professor?

I did some molecular biology research. We worked on stem cells and use mass spectrometry to analyze proteome of some target genes.

Team work's pretty much a must for research, as we've to keep everyone up to date on our experiments and our projects are interrelated. I also had to help train undergrads and delagate lab chores.

My PI's a really busy man, he doesnt usually stick around in the lab as he's always in conferences and commitees since he's a top-notch guy in his field (He was responsible for the rice genome). But we've to talk to him a lot to brief him about what's going on in the lab and our experiment.

To be honest, the biggest reason I want an MBA is because it gives me more flexibility in terms of things I can do after I grad. I've absolutely no interest to stay in a CVS for the rest of my life. My current plan is to go into a pharmaceutical company and enter the marketing department and work my way up the ladder. I believe my long-term goal along that line of thought is to work in Asia for a pharma as a marketing director.

The story of your friend, however, really interest me. Did he got any background in finance before he gets into equity research? I am trying to keep my mind open about what opportunities are out there and I am willing to learn and do what it takes to get there.

My friend did not have any finance background although I must reckon that he did have some consulting experience for the pharmaceutical industry. Your career goal makes sense and I hope you also do have some Asian ties or background in order to get to work in Asia. I believe you gave a good reason to work in a pharmaceutical firm post MBA but be aware that top MBA schools usually require you to have at least 2 years experience. You can still try given you oustanding GMAT but I would perhaps recommend you to get some work experience before you join.
