Solution:

Since the probability of randomly selecting a yellow marble is 2/7 and that of a purple marble is 3/7, the probability of randomly selecting a blue marble is 1 - 2/7 - 3/7 = 2/7. Since there are 56 marbles in the jar, there are 2/7 x 56 = 2 x 8 = 16 blue marbles in the jar.
