This is a fair article with some legitimately good points. We have also seen a tremendous increase in client demand at
Admissionado. The one downside of the MBA experience - the virtual or hybrid nature of the program - seems not to have deterred as many people from applying in 2020 for matriculation in 2021.
I would fully expect next year to be another difficult year for acceptances as the effects from the economy may continue to linger and deferrals from this year will come back to the fold. Anything beyond that will be quite hard to predict with much certainty.
Looking forward, deferrals are almost never granted for more than one year, so that will probably settle out. The GMAT waiver will almost surely go away, so that will filter out candidates with lower scores who may be applying to more schools or programs above their weight. In general, MBA application trends experience short-term shifts, so it's best to view them no more than a season or two in advance. Just look at the 2008-2009 financial crisis for a potential comparison.
My advice to all of my current (and future) clients is to get all of the components of your application in great shape now so if and when you decide to apply, you are ready with a strong profile and will be less impacted by the vacillation in application numbers from year to year. That may include seizing the pandemic in a way to show your scrappiness and creativity. Think about ways to realize achievements at work or outside of work that demonstrate your ability to think outside-of-the-box. That can and will be looked upon favorably by admissions committees.
