Statement 1: X can be any even number. Not Suff

Statement 2: X = 14, 15, 16. Not Suff

Statements 1 & 2: X = 14, 16. Not Suff

Answer: E

i)6 not perfect square
16 perfect square.
INSUFFICIENT

ii)x can be 14,15 or 16
INSUFFICIENT.

on combining,
x can be 14 or 16.
again,
INSUFFICIENT.

E is the answer.

1. could be 4 (yes perfect square) or 8 (not a perfect square) not suff.
2. x could be 14, 15, 16 these are all not perfect squares so the answer is 100% no not a perfect square. Sufficient?

Bunuel Why is the official answer E given statement 2 gives a definitive no?

A perfect square is an integer which is the square of an integer. For example, 0 = 0^2, 1 = 1^2, 4 = 2^2, 9 = 3^2, 16 = 4^2, 25=5^2, ... are prefect square.
