If interviewer asks for resume walk through, shall one go for brief answer or detailed answer...

for my interview, i was pretty thorough but was sure to keep it somewhat short as my interviewer asked me to keep it to 5 or so min.

That's a really good question, I've wondered the same thing. I think if the person doesn't indicate the level of detail that they want then they're doing a really bad job interviewing.

I had a student interview last week, really nice guy, but his first question was, "So tell me about where you're coming from and what you're doing now, and why you're thinking about school." Again, a nice guy, and his gesticulations and demeanor made it clear that he was just being friendly and keeping things casual, but still it was a little challenging to figure out how much time to drone on for.

5 min. seems to be too long.

I would go on for ~ 2 minutes. Short and sweet.

If they want, they can ask follow-up questions.

I agree with biggname. Also use "theme summaries" or highlights tailored to each school.
