I have used the same two recommenders for all of my prior b-school apps. I have decided to apply to one more school in R3, and have already received affirmation that one of the recommenders will do one more for me. However, I go to call my 2nd recommender, and I find out his father died and he will be out of state staying with his family for the next month or so.
These two references are both from my previous job, as I am not comfortable telling any supervisors at my current job about my b-school plans. Also, they were the only real supervisors I had at my previous job, and I would feel uncomfortable reaching out to someone who was kind of an "iffy" supervisor and expecting them to do a LOR for me in a few days.
How would an adcomm view a LOR from a coworker? There is a former coworker that knows my situation and is willing to write one for me. I tried scanning for info on their online app, but I didn't see where they specifically said it must be a current or prior supervisor.
This is a rather unethicaly but frequent path a lot of MBA applicants take: call your #2 reccomender and ask if they mind if you write the letter of rec for them. Explain to them that they will likely have to verify the rec later in the process. This takes place often in large firms/corporations where managers simply do not have time to write a quality rec. I would take this path or at least explore it.
This sucks so bad. Am I screwed?
