Straight D. Only C and D are close; C makes it past tense while the sentence implies that the ACT of NOT understanding coincides with the act of her telling not to call her up.

Another vote for D. It should not be " did not UNDERSTOOD her" but " did not UNDERSTAND her".

I do not have the OA. However I think it is D.

D denotes the fact that he did not understand her when she said it and that he still does not understand her in the present tense. The fact that he does not understand her causes him to currently act as if he has not understood her.

that's subjunctive mood. C has a tense mismatch. acts and understood.

"has + PP" doesnot not fulfill the subjunctive requirement. needs "were".

I also think that D is correct. My side of reasoning is - since sentence begins in present tense so it needs to maintain present tense through out unless there is real need, i.e. to give more clarity etc....

D conveys the same without getting into another tense.

Good thing fistail. the rule is fine. but did not understOOd should be typo in order for the answer to be C.
I would go with C if the tenses used is fine.

do you think GMAT Prep has typo...?

i also did not get you.

i mean the tense should be in past.

though "as if" is not typically covered in gmat.
