Even I think it is A and not D.

I think for D to be correct it needs to be framed as follows:

" No two quarries are alike, and each requires a degree of study in its own to interpret what went on in the past"

Please correct me (as I know I am wrong)

I would like to know what pushed you to insert "in its own" after "degree of study". What is the reasoning?

A is perfect but in ''its'' own right... but what it tends to neglect is the ''specific'' aspect of''each'' of the quarries...

where as D clarifies the ambiguity when it says ''each'' where it refers each of the two quarries...

hope that helps!

D makes it sound like - each quary requires a degree of study

This is exactly the case. Each quary does require a degree of study.

(A) No two quarries are alike, and it requires
(B) Two quarries are not alike, and either requires
(C) Neither two quarries are alike, and each requires
(D) No two quarries are alike, and each requires
(E) No two quarries are alike, and either requires

whoa! stolyar is back with his mind piercing SCs.

D clearly suggests that 'each' quarry requires a degree of study. A seems like referring to one particular quarry.
