A - Past tense (i.e. ...less than #200 is spent...)
C - Awkward sentence (i.e. gov't spends annually fewer than)
D - Past tense (i.e. ...are supported...)
E - should be "less than" (not fewer than)

I like B.

A - Past tense (i.e. ...less than #200 is spent...)

E is the only option I can think of.
fewer is used for countable plurals so may be it right.

Here's my analysis:
A. "amount" is not clear...could be money or institutions
B. use of "like"...should be "such as"
C. "in the US" makes it seem like European countries spend money in the US rather than comparing US spending...also who is the government - US/Euro?
D.use of "like"...should be "such as"
E. correct

A) In the United States has wrong usage of "in". each year is misplaced. It should come before " by the goverment". although the amount in European countries is much greater is incomplete and dangling without coneying the correct meaning.

B) supporting..wrong usage of continuous tense. Like instead of such as is wrong usage.

C) much has been missed before greater. "in" before the united states goverment is wrong.

D) Original sentence mentioned also about the arts and cultural institutions...but nothing has been mentioned here. Use of passive voice is unnecessary.

E) Is correct.

"E" should be the answer.

uses "such as" vs. "like" but uses fewer instead of "less"

Between A & E... A looks better b/c it uses "less than" vs. E's "fewer than" which sounds awkward.

There is a close tie between A and E.
Now Option A is in passive voice as the Subject is government .

Option E is in active voice...
Hence IMO is E.
I doubt the answer to be A.

IMO, E is Wrong inthat it has Fewer.

When we talk abt money we use less than but not fewer than.

We say less than 200 dollars but not fewer than 200 dollars..

thus Less than is more correct here..
