I debated over C & E

A. "causing the result" Awkward
B. "causing the result" Awkward
C. resulting in mass starvation in some areas and the elimination of as much as
D. "and resulted in mass starvation" & "and the elimination" awkwardE. causing mass starvation in some areas and the elimination of as many as -

- 15% is countable so can't be much so picked E

C. for llism.
resulting in "mass starvation" ................. and "the elimination of"...............
also require "as much as' for proper comparision/idiom.

Here, the population is singular. Hence the 15% of the population is not plural. C, not E should be the answer.

usage of causing is awkward thus A,B,D are straight out

Now between C & E , I picked C because of as much as

if the 15% was to be a number like 10,000 people, I would have picked e
