seeing that one needs to win an Olympic medal to get admitted to Stanford nowadays, i wonder why more applicants don't just go for the gold, instead of fighting for that one PE spot. lol. in the spirit of the upcoming Olympics - which sport do you think you'd be most competitive in? me: Handball. :wink:

also, if you were an adcomm what would you think of the following stats:
2.6 gpa
650
no relevant work experience
Olympic Bronze
LOR: Coach K?

guaranteed admission?

Being an Olympic champion helps a lot (I mean, WOW!), but I would say your GPA is a bit low for Stanford, and GMAT is definitely an area you should work on. No work ex could be compensated by great leadership stories from other areas or career change goals.

Only a bronze? I would say Stanford has a soft minimum of a silver. Although they will tell you they accept Bronze, and that the Olympic medal is just ONE component of many they consider when selecting an applicant, we all know the truth.

Agree with that. In my opinion, silver/gold medal plus 700+ GMAT may put okaythief in the radar of Stan. I believe they get a lot of silver/gold medalists and hence the chances that they choose a bronze medalist of equal stats (GMAT, GPA, extracurriculas) are not so great. However, I can be mistaken...

Well, not to mention, a letter from Coach K may not cut it either. While Coach K used to be at the top of his profession, in this, "what have you done for me lately" culture, Stanford may frown upon his lack of Final Four appearances in the last few years. If I was okaythief, I may set my sights a little higher, perhaps Bill Self, or Roy Williams...
