Congrats on your decision Kry- if I may say, it is truly impressive to see someone break the norm and go to a school based on fit, rather than succumb to peer pressure and go to the higher ranked one. Kudos! and good luck!! :)

ahh, so you're the guy requesting for an add on Fbook! I thought it was just some random stalker. :P

Haha, debating whether to make the spreadsheet public... I may put it in the Essay Vault just to keep it from being too distributed.

terry12, red_s4, and notokung, we need to start the "West Coast Posse" chapter of GMATClub this fall. We should all meet sometime!

dosa, thanks for the kind words. It was tough, and the "higher ranking" does play tricks on people's minds (I heard the same things from other Haas vs Kellogg admits for the past couple of weeks). In the end, if I can help future applicants really sit down and not put so much emphasis on rankings, and focus on all the factors at once, then I would be happy. :)

Re: Kryzak’s Long and Windy Road to B-School [#permalink]
Wonderful post Kryzak. I think you did great job explaining the circumstances that motivate someone with an engineering background to pursue an MBA. Pray tell, did you have any epiphanies about business while doing your business development job?

Your post kind of reflects the same reasons why I'm doing my MBA, although I come from the other side of the fence. During undergrad, I opted to shun engineering and study finance instead. But after working for several years, I started developing a sort of "kindred spirit" with the technical experts. More often than not, these were the guys that cared about the integrity of their craft. What I hated seeing was the quality of their work compromised or overshadowed by rah-rah corporate types whose scope of vision only went as far as the next earnings call.

I for one welcome more engineers to the classroom. I'm going for the purpose of learning as much as I can about you, and how to bring your work to the limelight... and hopefully you guys will be there to learn how to get along with me. ;)

PS. I wanna see a >25% ROI before I approve your project.
PPS. Kryzak, you're my new best friend if you at any point worked on developing jet engines.
PPPS. Kudos.

haha, thank you FairPlay. epiphanies? Probably not, but definitely came to the realization at how inefficiently the defense industry works and how I definitely want to get out of it soon. :)

good to have someone from the other side, b-school will be fun bringing people from all fields together.

no jet engines, just rocket science, haha :P

kwam: no worries. *I* probably wouldn't even read through the incoherent thing I posted myself, hahaha. :P

very well articulated. nice to see your thought process through all the highs and lows. Very well done kry ! All the great things you have said about Hass in this forum have forced me to take a closer look at the school and i have realized that it is indeed a great school. I for one shall surely be applying to Haas this fall.

All the best !

thank you pan, if you need contacts or are visiting, let me know. I am officially the "rhyme of Haas" no. :P

Rhyme, I sincerely thank you for all the help you've given me. I can honestly say if there is ONE person out there whom without his help I would not have gotten into any school, it would be you.

I still owe you dinner and drinks, next time I'm in Chicago or if you come out here to the West. :)

I sure hope I can break into VCs, maybe we may end up at the same fund, haha.

Kry, I hope you've learned an important lesson. Rather than agonize over what to do and make some insane spreadsheet, just ask me. I'd a told you Haas long ago.

Good work, man. You won't be disappointed.

Haha, yeah, I REALLY need to remember to listen to you. You told me I would get in (or was that nervousgmat?), and you told me I would go there, and right on both counts. :)
