Is it normal for B-school students to print their own business cards for use at recruiting/networking events? If yes, are there guidelines/templates that can be used?
I was wondering if having something generic which says you are an MBA candidate, class of #### at XYZ school of business.... along with contact information would be handy for networking/recruiting events while in school.
Any thoughts?

When I visited every student I met had a professional business card from their school. For example, at Columbia all the students had cards that had the CBS name and logo in the upper left corner, their name and expected MBA graduation year in the middle and their contact info below that. If you have a designation (couple guys had CFA) you can list that after your name as is common practice. So.... I would wait and get cards through your school. Don't try to make a cheesy one on your own. If you want, you could call your program just to verify that they do this.

NYU has professional business cards also and they are pretty cheap ($20 for 500). If your school offers business cards, go with those and don't print your own.

yeah, I was tempted to get some before school starts (since I'm "business-card-less" right now), but I think I'll just wait for the school ones.

Thanks...for the info...any idea how soon one can get these? There are a couple of events I might be interested in attending Mid-July and was wondering if these can be obtained before school officially starts....

I don't think you can get 'em at most schools until you show up... you could always call the school and ask, though.

you pick up the duke ones at orientation, provided you order them on time.

i would guess most schools send the order form with the summer mailing. ours goes put first week of june.

Yeah, Darden is the same if I recall. You order them over the summer, and you get them at orientation or during the first few days. It's kind of hard to remember exactly, given all that went on the first couple of weeks. But yeah, I think usually you get them through the school rather than printing them up on your own.

I'd call the school. Otherwise, an alternate trick is to find a student that has one, grab it, and copy it as best you can then just have kinkos print it. It wont be the same font, cardstock, etc, but it can be done. You can also try contacting your schools' public relations dept for details on fonts, sizes, border lengths etc. I did that for a case competition and was able to get font sizes, logos in vector formats, etc.

hmm...scan and switch the name huh? It is the easiest way out but i wonder if I am "allowed" to do that. :roll:
I guess I'd be better off calling the school....regardless

Wharton has them available officially through the reprographics department. Cost is $35 for 250. I think it's best to stick with the official ones. You wouldn't want an administrator to find out and label it as going against the honor code or something like that (which I believe the scanning and changing thing will do).

OK this is what i got...

Unfortunately, the school business cards will not be ready until you arrive in August. You may print your own, but you are not permitted to use our logo on cards that you have printed yourself.

Now what....???? Any suggesstions?
