From what I remember of last year...no most schools wont. You can ask but dont expect much in the way of an extension. With numbers up this year I would bet they wont really have much of an incentive to let you extend your timeline. You will probably have to suck it up and pay the 1-2k deposit.

MIT gave me one week more and I didn't even ask them. Chicago didn't give "a minute" more on the other hand.

I wouldn't generalize as they way both schools operate though, especially this year students have less bargaining power than they had in previous years.

Around when are the usual acceptance deadlines for people who got in during Round 1?

Question: are deposits payable via credit card?

CC payment is instantaneous, so one can pay on the deadline date even from other parts of the world. The few days gained are important to those who have R1 admits and R2 applications to wait for.

Re: Acceptance Deadlines [#permalink]
I've already received two extensions...one was asked for and one was offered. These were not M7 but top 20-30 schools. If you have a legitimate reason, go for it. For instance, one of my R2 deposit deadlines was before another school's R1 decision was released.

Re: Acceptance Deadlines [#permalink]
I'd say many schools would. Haas gave me 2 weeks (and gave some others up to 3 weeks), UCLA gave me a week, and Kellogg I heard wouldn't (I didn't ask since I was an R2 admit).

Haas is credit card or check.

And $1000 is SMALL in the grand scheme of things, like picking the best school for yourself. Even if there were no deadline extensions, I would have paid the $1000 so I can make an informed decision that will affect the rest of my life. :)

Re: Acceptance Deadlines [#permalink]
Are you all asking for extensions now? My first deadline is mid-March - s it better to wait until mid-February to ask? Seems a bit silly saying that I need more time now, 2 months in advance.
