Re: Report [#permalink]
[quote="ritula"]The international report showed that American science students did as well, if not better than, their counterparts in other cultures.

(A) as well, if not better than
(B) as well as, if not better than
(C) just as well, whether or not better than
(D) just as well if not better as
(E) as well, and perhaps better, as

remove the sentence between two commas and read..
only B makes sense.

Re: Report [#permalink]
Suresh now here isnt comma required after than? To quote ur reply in an earlier similar case ,where we were making a similar comparison. This is wht u had told me:
[E is wrong because comma is missing after "faster than"
and sentence is broken. land values ros as fast as ??? what ??? its not clear.

land values rose as fast as, and in some parts even faster than what they did

E would have been correct if it were
land values in pinelands rose as fast as, and in some parts even faster than, they did outside pinelands]

comma is required. I believe in the question you accidentally underlined the comma.
If you see option A.. there is no comma but in the quesiton you underlined that part too..
