Hi Scorpioguy,
According to the new rules that are valid from 1 June 2009, you will need:
1.Visa Letter, issued by your educational institution.
2. Sufficient amount of funds, which is calculated as follows:
(number of month of study, up to max of 9)*800GBP, if you are going to study in inner London,
(number of months of study, up to max of 9)*600GBP, if you are going to study elsewhere in the UK.
So, in our case, for 1 year progamme outside of London, it will be 9*600=5400GBP.
Now, about the evidence they require: money should be held in your account for the period of no less than 28 days (earlier, it was sufficient just to show that you have money at the time you apply for visa... well, no longer!). It seems there is still a more easy option if you apply prior to 1 October of 2009 - see the link below.
Aside from that, if you still have not paid the tuition fees, the sum of these fees should be added to this amount of 5400GBP. If you paid them, you need to show the proof to the embassy (receipt, or information in visa letter confirming the payment).
If you already paid some part of the living expenses (for example, for accommodation), the amount you paid should be subtracted from the sum of 5400GBP - so you need to show less.
I hope I explained it clear - but here is the link, just in case:
