Hey everyone, just scheduled my interview for Monday Oct 5th. Wondering if anyone will be around then and wants to meet up (although, admittledly it sounds like I'll be pretty busy Class visit in the morning, lunch, interview, then info session and flying out that night). Very excited about this process and very nervous now! How is the parking situation around Kellogg? I'll be renting a car from O'Hare and just need to know how that is. Also, is there a place to confirm on my application the time and date of my interview? Just want to ensure I book everything properly.

Visitor parking on campus is pretty much non-existant. You may want to call the admissions office and see if you can get a day pass. Otherwise, next closest option is to park on the street, but make sure you read the signs carefully, as they make certain sides of the street no parking on different days of the week for street cleaning, and other streets are zoned during the day. I got a ticket when I went last year for my interview. Option three is to park in one of the pay garages around evanston that are all within easy walking distance from Kellogg.

Dont rent a car...it will be more of a pain than its worth. Street parking is hard to get since its 2 hour limits and they ticket like anything. Visitor parking is not really available and the public pay lots aren't exactly cheap. A taxi to and from the airport will run you less than $40 each way if you take a flat rate local taxi...there is also a bus that is like $1.50 each way and drops you off right in Evanston. However, the bus takes twice as long.

This reminds me of earlier this year when I visited the campus. I had to park on the street about a block away, then ran inside to admissions for the temporary pass. Kept looking for guest parking then finally found a spot a mile away, ran to Jacobs because I was going to be late meeting my student host for class. After barely making it, I went to the class (which was great), but then realized in the middle of it that I had scratched off the wrong day on the pass. Decided not to chance a ticket, so got a new pass ,ran to the car and then back to the building for lunch and the tour. The day ended with me getting mixed up on which of the huge parking lots I was in and walking around in the cold looking for the car to leave. I think that if I interview on campus this fall ,I'll just have someone drop me off

This is more of a logistics question. I'm a prospective student for Fall 2010 and I'm visiting (just visit, no interview) Kellogg on Mon, Oct 5th. I'll be flying into Chicago the day before. While I am there, I'll also visit Chicago GSB on Tue, Oct 6th (I'm not sure if I can say this loud in this thread). I'm not renting a car so I just want to stay somewhere between the 2 schools that is near by a public transit station. Do you guys have any recommendations? I'm not familiar with the Chicago area at all; your help will be very much appreciated.

If you stay in the Loop you can easily ride the train to both schools. There are plenty of good hotels in the area, and you should get a good deal this time of year.

I'm applying to the 1 year program right now but haven't heard of anything from either the 1 year or the 2 year people of gmat's between 650 and 700. The reason I ask is that I recently just retook the gmat and completely bombed the quantitative piece (poor time management) and scored 660.

Based on the stats, 24% of the admitted students fall within this range. I don't know if you guys talk about your gmat score once you've been admitted, but have you met a number of students with scores in this range?

Also, I've been doing my HW on Kellogg to see what differentiates it from the other top programs. Other than the top notch General Management program, what else would you say differentiates Kellogg from the other programs?

What is the culture like on campus? Competitive? Laid back?

Only person I know with a low GMAT is ghgirl (minority female from Ghana) from on here. I know a few people with 690s who joked about being stupid but they definitely have a lot more going for themselves. If you are a borderline candidate it will definitely hurt your candidacy.

Culture is a huge difference between most schools, here it is definitely laid back and far from competitive which is funny since there is a forced curve. I think if you read this thread and some of the applicant threads, along with the schools website it will answer most of your questions.

Kellogg's optional essay is narrow and asks you to use it to only explain extenuating circumstances. Do you know if it is ok to use it to highlight a character trait or accomplishment which you haven't been able to in another essay? Certain application guides like Bodine and Montauk recommend using an optional essay to highlight positive areas as well.

If you can talk about the things in other essays I wouldn't use the optional essay for that. Especially if they ask you to only use it to explain extenuating circumstances...anything else kind of goes against the directions and you need to follow directions.

any thoughts on how to approach the Essay #3: evaluation from a student member's perspective...Is it more or less like the "how will you contribute to Kellogg" question?
I am finding it difficult to decide the tone of the essay..
