Re: percents!! [#permalink]
I did it in a following way

1.25J = .25k

5J= K --> J= k/5-----1

3/3k=1/2l = 3k = l ---> k = l/3---2

7l = 3m--->i=7/3m

now we need to calculate 200 % of J to 20 % of M

put value of k in st1

j= l/15, m= 7l/3

2l/15 = 7l/15

so its clearly 350%

Here's how I did it:

First, find the relation of J to M:

5J = K
3K = L
7L = 3M

15J = L
105J = 3M
35J = M

Now, answer the question:

20% of m is equal to 200% of J: \(.2M = 70J\)

\(\frac{70}{.2} = 350\)

I reached upto the highlighted part

m = 35j

20% of m = 7j

Bunuel: Kindly suggest how to move f/ward... ?

Hi Paresh,

Now, just look at the final statement:

20% of m = 7j = x% of 2j (200% of j is 2j)

So, we have

7j = (x/100)*2j

Solving this, you get x = 350.

Does it help?

Find the relationship between 20% of m, which is 7j and 200% of j which is 2j.

As you can see, 7j (which is 20% of m) is 3.5 times of 2j, i.e. 3.5 times means 350%

First of all, let us write the information in form of equations and numbers

125 J = 5K or 5J = K (i)
150 K = 50L or 3K = L (ii)
175L = 75M or 7L = 3M (iii)

We need to find a relation between J and M

From (i) and (ii), 15J = L
Multiplying this by 7, 105J = 7L = 3M
Hence, 35J = M

Now, we are asked: 20% of m is equal to what percent of 200% of j

Assume J = 1, hence M = 35
20% of M = 7 and 200% of J =2
20% of M = 3.5 (200% of J) = (350/100)* (200% of J)

Hence 20% of M = 350% of 200% of J.

i got stuck after 35j=1m, but after some hours got that if we need % of m from j we should consider that

m/j=35/1, so (0.2*35/2*1)*100 =7/2*100 = 350%

Best way is to take numbers :

J- 100
K- 500
L - 1500
M 3500

[20% of M 700/ 200% of J - 200] *100 = 350

We can create the following equations:

1.25j = 0.25k

1.5k = 0.5l

1.75l = 0.75m

We need to get m and j in terms the same variable.

Thus:

6(1.25j = 0.25k)

7.5j = 1.5k

Since 1.5k = 0.5l, we have:

7.5j = 0.5l

j = 0.5l/7.5 = 5l/75 = l/15

Thus, 200% of j = 2j = 2(l/15) = 2l/15

Looking at the third equation, we can get m in terms of l:

1.75l = 0.75m

m = 1.75l/0.75 = 175l/75 = 7l/3

Thus, 20% of m = (1/5)m = (1/5)(7l/3) = 7l/15.

We need to determine:

20% of m is equal to what percentage of 200% of j?

(7l/15)/(2l/15) x 100

7/2 x 100 = 3.5 x 100 = 350%

125% of j is equal to 25% of k:
\(\frac{5}{4}j = \frac{1}{4}k\)
\(5j = k\)
\(\frac{k}{j} = 5\)

150% of k is equal to 50% of l:
\(\frac{3}{2}k = \frac{1}{2}l\)
\(3k = l\)
\(\frac{l}{k} = 3\)

175% of l is equal to 75% of m:
\(\frac{7}{4}l = \frac{3}{4}m\)
\(7l = 3m\)
\(\frac{m}{l} = \frac{7}{3}\)

20% of m is equal to what percent of 200% of j?
In other words:
0.2m is equal to what percent of 2j?
\(\frac{0.2m}{2j} * 100 = 10\frac{m}{j} = 10(\frac{m}{l} * \frac{l}{k} * \frac{k}{j}) = 10(\frac{7}{3}*3*5) = 350\)
