Because it pays to be nice and trolling is for other forums.

I've pondered this one to no end while lurking and started contributing back and helping where I can.

[musing]
There is truly a preponderance of silo-ed knowledge in the world and given the sheer masses of people online, it's safe to assume that someone out there on a computer right now will have an answer that has been burning you up. Sites like this one, metafilter, etc let you draw on the knowledge of the hive .
[/musing]

I do think that gmatclub is amazing in the respect that a lot of the applicants who are on here have some sort of computing related job (even if it not the core, ie they spend 8 hrs a day in front of a comp) and hence, with that combined savvy, people make slides, excels to help with this planning!
I'm about to upload a cost of living comparator for jobs so that people can have a ready reckoner for job decisions --- (I've been pondering a promotion opportunity and needed to do some numbers on the change!)

Thanks to everyone on and I surely will only continue to contribute whether I get in this year or not! (fingers crossed)
Cheers!

It could also be that the people posting in the medical and dental forums have had serious problems and issues getting into the schools they wanted to and achieving the career goals that they set for themselves so now they're bitter and discouraging to everyone else. Perhaps their level of attainment isn't as high as they say it is in the forum and they are deliberately discouraging. -just a guess though.

true, but the medical and dental forums are supposed to be doing the same thing as this one. however, the quality of posts and information is about the opposite of what you'd see here.

i agree that people in most general online forums are d-bags, but even comparing between pre-graduate school forums, the people posting here seem nicer than others. i do agree with bsdlover's post though

i think its only bcoz the precedence set was nice... now when a newbie joins and gets full support, he is inclined to provide support to others in return, even if he is bad mouthing in other forums... u try to help someone back when someone helps u...

Yes, I think the reciprocity dealio is quite important, as well as the aligned and well-defined common goals that was mentioned earlier. I've seen subforums of places where one subforum is rife with trolls and chuckleheads, whereas the next subforum is filled with patient, helpful users. All under the same domain, but the difference was one forum was a General forum, the other a specific-topic forum that was meant for learning a particular skill.

Kudos Mods for a job well done.

I regret not learning about this site earlier.
I messed up my 2 first apps in R1, and GC definitely made me learn a lot about the process for R2. Only if I had applied for my stretch school in R2 *snif* :)

Thanks GC!

Can't agree more. The people in this forum are helpful and do actually provide sincere encouragement and support for fellow B-school application.

Why? No idea but I am just glad to have stumbled on this forum for my GMAT preparation.

Hello everyone,

This is my first post in gmatclub, though I've been following the blog for 2-3 months. I was reading the BW blog today the first time, and instantly felt the difference between the two. With so much bashing, negativity and discouragement there, I feel gmatclub is an AWESOME blog. Kudos to everyone posting here.
