Hey guys,
I obtained my MBA from a non Ivy League school with the main purpose of opening my own architectural office later down in life (my Bachelors of Architecture was from a good school though).
But things have changed, most people in the construction industry have been hit really hard by the economy (especially architects). I have been in search for an architectural job for too long and I'm wondering what doors could my MBA open for me.
Ideally, I would like to find a job niche where companies need a MBA grad with the extra knowledge that comes from being an Architect.
The only thing that I could think of are banks. Banks are saturated with foreclosures, I'm sure they have a dedicated team taking care of such properties and figuring out what to do with them. If that is the case, then my architectural background could come up handy.
Yet, I have no clue if such position exist and what is called
. I'm also wondering what else is out there, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
As a last resource, what starting (paid) positions are bailable for MBA grads? I have 5 years of professional work experience, but it's mostly Architecture... So I get the feeling, I'll have to start from the ground up.
Thanks a lot!
Regards,
If anyone wants to take a look at my resume, please PM, (If it helps any)
If I were you I would look at commercial construction companies, preferably on the larger side. Residential is dead and will be dead for a while so, yes, better to cut your losses now. Commercial has slowed, but there are better opportunities.
Banks really don't need an architect because all they are doing is foreclosing and selling. They are not really going to spend time or money finishing a house, remodeling a house, or making changes to a house. Any incomplete houses will get sold to an investor or builder, anyone willing to take the risk.
You should see if your school has an alumni network and tap into that network.
You might also consider an engineering firm specializing in commercial construction.
