Re: Internal/Corporate Strategy [#permalink]
Looks like such information is hard to come by. I've scratched my head too but ended up with just a handful of names.
I am looking at tech or telecom firms which run such programs.

Re: Internal/Corporate Strategy [#permalink]
From what I've seen, the few companies that do have dedicated internal strategy departments they tend to be filled with a small group of very senior people within the organization and then they pull in more junior team members from different functional areas (marketing, BD, finance) as needed for specific projects. A lot of what would be considered strategy work tends to fall within the marketing function through the various brand and portfolio teams.

Re: Internal/Corporate Strategy [#permalink]
Jerz,

Is it fair to compare such internal strategy groups with rotational programs that take candidates through assignments in different lines of business or functional areas and then assign a more permanent role? Mostly, the internal strategy groups I've looked at seem to be a temporary thing. This is the reason am drawing a parallel between the internal strategy groups and rotational programs.

Re: Internal/Corporate Strategy [#permalink]
It depends on the rotational program. Many rotational programs send you through different functional areas, which depending on the company may or may not include much internal strategy. Rotational programs do tend to focus on discrete "projects" during the rotations though, so in that sense they may seem a little like internal strategy groups. That said though, rotational programs and internal strategy will vary by company, so the best approach is probably to think through what companies/industry you're interested in then research the specifics for those companies.

Google lists a Business Operations and Strategy Associate on their MBA opportunities page. Sounds like a pretty cool job but two years experience at a leading consulting, corporate strategy, or I-bank are required.
