Admitted to Texas (McCombs) Class of 2013 Thread!

I need some help understanding my chances of career switch from IT Consulting to Corporte finance(non I-Banking) with Mccombs. PLease consider that I am an international student. I will be fine with Financial consulting firms too.

As far as corporate finance is concerned:

I am a first year at UT who is also doing a career switch into corporate finance (I’ve worked in operations). I was a bit surprised by the number of companies I was able to interview on campus with. Being an international makes the road a little rougher, but I remember many of the hi-tech firms do sponsor. The companies I interviewed with seemed receptive to career switchers and many of the folks I know who interviewed don’t have finance backgrounds.

I think the key to interviewing is to get a good grasp of the basics during the first semester and keep refreshed over the long break. Most of the corp fin interviews took place the week we got back to class. The recruiters will ask technical questions that are difficult to answer so early in the first elective semester; especially coming from a non-finance background. There are many resources and guides to help prepare.

Can someone tell me how to find potential roomates? I was admitted after the admit weekend and the admitted students website doesn't seem overly helpful.

Hey...I haven't been admitted but just had my interview today. What did you guys feel after your interview? I feel very 50-50...advice.

I also felt 50/50 after my interview. In fact, I remember telling my wife exactly that. I remember feeling that I didn't do anything to lead me to think that if I don't get in it will be because of my interview, but I also am not sure if it made a big difference.

Anyway, good luck. I ended up getting admitted (DFW program).

Waitlisted at Tuck and Stern...think I'm holding out for Tuck but really really draw to the warm weather and city life at Austin. Anyone have any thoughts?

Congratulations. As far as Tuck they are over enrolled so odds are extremely slim. Don't know about NYU. Also depends on goals but McCombs is a great school. Regardless, you should be fine.
