Why is D not the correct answer?

Idiom - X as well as Y conveys that X is more important than Y (Both X and Y are important but X gets more importance).

In D, X as well as Y is used, which is incorrect because all the three elements in the parallel list are equally important. Hence A is the best answer as all elements in the list are perfectly parallel

Recognizing changes, understanding changes, and adjusting to changes are three equally essential elements, none less than the others. D deviates from this reality by giving a lower status to understanding. That is why it is out of the reckoning

Hello Sir,

The following query may sound a bit silly but would you please assist ?

'Recognizing, understanding and adjusting to changes in the global marketplace has become an increasingly complex task'

I understand that 'an increasingly complex task' is referring to a single task, but I would like to know how the three items in a list don't need a plural verb 'have' ?

Thank you.

Apparently they are plural but for the author. they do not seem so.
