The temperature dropped suddenly last night, which will mean that the shoots emerging from the soil will be killed by the frost.

A. which will mean that the shoots emerging from the soil will be killed by the frost.
B. which will mean that the frost will kill the shoots emerging from the soil.
C. and this will mean that the shoots emerging from the soil will be killed by the frost.
D. and the resulting frost will kill the shoots that are emerging from the soil.
E. and as a result, the shoots will be killed by the frost, emerging from the soil.

Meaning Analysis:

The temperature drop will result in frost that will kill the shoots.

Error Analysis:
A) "which" cannot be used to refer to an action. It's a relative pronoun and must refer to noun/noun phrase.
B) Same as A.
C)"This" has no logical antecedent.
D)NO errors.
E)The use of Verb-ing modifier emerging to modify the previous clause is wrong. Will the shoots be killed by the frost BY emerging from the soil? NO.
Is emerging from the soil the result of the frost killing the shoots? NO. Hence, the use of verb-ing modifier is incorrect.

Hit Kudos if you liked the explanation :)
