First, I think most people here are only familiar with applying to MBA programs (myself included). But given the information you provided, I think applying this year for your masters in finance is feasible with a lot of planning, organization, and hard work. If you're working full time, expect to have no social life. I would try to schedule your GMAT so that you can retake it in case the score is not as high as you would like (late Feb since you can only take it every 30 days). Focus most of your time until then on the GMAT, but I would definitely start looking at the essay questions and thinking of examples from your life to write about on the side.
Submitting your application on the day is due will not reduce your chances of acceptance.
In the end, I think it's up to you. If you're really determined and focused on starting school this fall, go for it 100%. But if you feel like you want more time to do the applications and think about if getting this degree is right for you, wait until next year. But IMO, I think you can definitely do the apps this year if you wanted. Good luck!
