The structure is Unlike A, B --- where B should be logically comparable to A. In all the highlighted portion, the comparison is blunder- comparing place to sun is nonsensical.
Only E has a neat structure presenting the intended meaning without any error.

Like and unlike are used to compare nouns and when you use them, a comparable noun is required ....
Unlike noun, noun .......
But here the structure is
unlike noun, in noun....
So we are comparing a noun, most of Norway, with a prepositional phrase, in Finnmark

Hi chetan2u ,
among all the options E seems the best. But I did not choose it.
Reason for the same was:

In most of Norway, residents can rely on a sunrise every day of the year, but in Finnmark the sun

I considered "residents can rely on a sunrise every day of the year" as a non-essential modifier since it was between the commas ( at the start and at the end ). And on eliminating the same "In most of Norway but in Finnmark the sun" seemed illogical.

Can you thrown some light on this ?
