Hi duke11693,

GMAC has publicly stated that the Official Score that you earn on Test Day is within +/- 30 points of actual ability. Your 2 Official Scores show that you essentially performed the same each time (about 630 +/- a few points). You handle certain aspects of the GMAT consistently well, but you also make certain consistent mistakes. At face value, the 640/Q40 would probably be a bit better for your applications - but if you know the specific Programs that you plan to apply to, then you should be able to research those Programs in a bit more detail so that you get a better sense of how competitive this Score is.

If you're looking to continue studying - with the goal of scoring significantly higher - then it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) How have you scored on EACH of your CATs (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your Goal Score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
6) What Schools are you planning to apply to?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hello,
I took the GMAT back in October and scored a 640 with a 40Q, which I accepted. I recently took the GMAT again a few weeks ago and got a 620 but with a 42Q. I cancelled that score but am now debating if I should reinstate it since I did do a little better on the quant. Does anyone have an opinion or suggestion on if would help, hurt, or not really make a difference if I reinstated this score and made both available on my score report? I am applying to mostly mid range schools (Ranked between 50-90) Thanks!

I doubt that it would make a huge difference either way, so don't worry about it. Your score is probably within the average range for most schools you're applying to, so at that point it's mostly going to depend on the remainder of your application - which is the right thing to focus on at this point. :)

Also, in case anybody else is reading this and is curious - schools can see all of your non-canceled scores, regardless of which one(s) you mention on your application. Unlike the GRE, you don't actively choose which scores to send and which scores not to send. It doesn't apply to this thread specifically, because the poster canceled his score. But if he hadn't done that, then there wouldn't be any issue of 'choosing' which score to send - schools would see both no matter what.

I agree with what already has been said. I’d send the higher score. However, to be on the safe side, reach out to the folks in admissions to see whether they can provide some clarity.
