Cost per person = 600/x

Cost each one still owes - $27

Down payment made = (600/x) - 27 = (600-27x)/x (On cross multiplication)

How much was the down payment per person: \(\frac{Down.Payment}{x}\);

\(Total.Cost=Down.Payment+Remaining\), and \(Total.Cost=600\), \(Remaining=27*x\); so, \(Down.Payment=600-27x\)

And per person down payment is: \(\frac{Down.Payment}{x}=\frac{(600-27x)}{x}\)

(C) is the answer.

With variable in answer choices Plugging numbers is the best way:

Say , x = 10 (people chartered the bus

Total charter cost = $ 600

Per person down payment contribution = 600/10 = $ 60

Remaining after down payment = $ 27

Actual down payment = 60 - 27 = $ 33 per person

Plug In x = 10 in all answer choices

Only answer choice (C) will give you $ 33.
