A customer eats the lunch special at a restaurant and adds a tip of 15 percent to his bill. What was the total cost of the lunch, including the tip?

1) If the customer had left no tip, he would have paid $8.00 for the lunch.
2) The total cost of his lunch, including the tip, was 80 percent of the cost of the same meal at dinnertime, which is $11.50.

So if the customer's bill is $x, a tip of 15% of x = $0.15x is added. this makes total amount including the tip as = $1.15x. We need the value of x to determine the answer.

(1) We are given that bill without the tip or x = 8. Sufficient.

(2) We are given that total cost = 1.15x = 80% of 11.5. We can find x from this. Sufficient.

Hence D answer

I) Total cost =8 +15*8/100

II)total cost =(80/100)*11.5

Both statements individually give answer so D
