If y pounds were initially discarded due to spoilage and later z percent of the remaining amount was also discarded while the rest was sold for s dollars per pound, which of the following represents the gross profit on the sale of the tomatoes?

A. $$(x - y - \frac{xz}{100})s -xp$$

B. $$(x - 100zx - y)s - xp$$

C. $$\frac{1}{100}(x - y - 100z)s -xp$$

D. $$(1 - \frac{z}{100})(x - y)s - xp$$

E. $$\frac{1}{100}(x - yz -xz)(s - p)$$

Cost of tomatoes = x*p

Pounds left after discarding first time = x-y, now out of these z percent discarded again. Or the amount discarded out of x-y = z/100 * (x-y)

So amount finally left after discarding = (1 - z/100)*(x-y).
This is sold for s dollars per pound, so the Selling Price = (1 - z/100)*(x-y)*s

So Gross Profit = Selling price - Cost price = (1 - z/100)*(x-y)*s - x*p

Hence D answer
