A movie theatre in Baltimore, last year, the properietor decided to sell about one third of his total balcony capacity on the Internet. The response was tremendous. On every new release, the entire on-line capacity was sold out. Today, there are at least 2 million educated and well-heeled consuemrs in USA, wo are ordering everyting from cinema tickets to pizzas and tennis racquets to shirts from the comfort of their offices or homes.

Which of the following can be iferred from the above passage?

1. There is a growing breed of computer -s avvy consumers in Baltimore.

We are not sure whether the number of computer savvy consumers is increasing.

2. It is more comfortable to purchase movie tickes throught he Internet.

Appears to be inference. But comfortable to whom? Not to everybody.

3. A retailing revolution is underway in USA with the advent of the Internet.

This seems to be a proper inference. My answer

4. The proprietor of the thetre can profitably decide to sell all the balcony tickets through the Internet.

Not an inference. How can somebody say that all the balcony tickets can be sold like that?

good analysis. but what is 'retailing revolution'. My first answer was B but after reading ur analysis, I am confused between B and C...could you plz explain

Retailing revolution is revolution in retail sector. Revolution in terms of how things are sold. Somebody also can argue by saying that C is out of scope. But if we see the tone of the argument, it sounds, as if something new and important is happening..no?

Starting with a specific case, the second part of the question clearly telling that at least two milion well educated and well heeled consumers in USA are utilizing the comfort of internet. This pointing that there is a retail revolution is happening.

My answer is C.

Sale of movie tickets online is an example to support that retail revolution is underway. Its not the main point the author intends to convey. And its not mentioned anywhere in the passage that buying movie tickets online is convenient.

My Choice is 1

1. There is a growing breed of computer -s avvy consumers in Baltimore.
Seems true based on the statements above
2. It is more comfortable to purchase movie tickes throught he Internet.
Not necessarily true. None of the statements in the argument directly support this
3. A retailing revolution is underway in USA with the advent of the Internet.
Takes it too far.
4. The proprietor of the thetre can profitably decide to sell all the balcony tickets through the Internet.[/quote]
I dont think we have enough information to say this
