Assume the side to be 100

Original area = 3^(1/2) * 100 * 100 * (1/4)

Reduced area = 3^(1/2) * 25 * 25 * (1/4)

Required area = 2 * Original area

% increase = [(Required area/Reduced area) * 100] -100 = 3100%

PS: I got the answer wrong!

You need the % increase in the side, not the % increase in the area.

Let A be the original side of the Triangle
Area = Sqrt3 * A^2/4
Now this A is reduced by 75% so the new side becomes A/4
New Area = Sqrt3*A^2/16
New Area required will be twice of the original area so increase required would be
Increase required = Sqrt3/4{2A^2 - A^2/16}*100/Sqrt3/4(A^2/16) = 3100%
