I wrote the first GMAT at the end of December and came out with a 620. My CATs before the test were as follows:
GMAT PREP - Nov 9th - 720
MGMAT - Nov 16th - 670
MGMAT - Nov 23rd - 680
GMAT PREP (exam pack 1) - Dec 7th - 710
GMAT PREP (exam pack 1) - Dec 14th - 750
I was absolutely gutted. I will admit that nerves played a big part for me on test day. However, I have to say that the questions just seemed tougher.
I decided to buckle down and book another test. It is coming up in a couple of weeks. I paid for the
Magoosh course and watched the videos in Qunat and finished all the questions. I've also been doing CATs since. I dedicated a week to each topic in Quant and peppered in verbal along with. So far, my CATs look like this:
MGMAT CAT - Jan 5th - 730 Q45 V45
GMAT PREP - Jan 11th - 730 Q48 V42
MGMAT CAT - Jan 12th - 700 Q45 V40
MGMAT CAT - Feb 1st - 730 Q45 V44
GMAT PREP - Feb 15th - 750 Q49 V44
I admit that I have gotten better with Qunat. I can visualize what is being asked and can avoid traps better. However, the CATs just seem easy, especially the GMAT Prep Cats. Keep in mind that I don't remember any of the questions from my first go, so it isn't that I have seen the questions before. The questions just seem simple. Sometimes I look up the questions on these forums and they are tagged 600-700. I have no idea how much faith I can put into these scores. I also struggle when doing the GMAT Club Quant tests, which has me worried.
Why am I doing better in Qunat on GMAT Prep? Would it be the case that since I've reset these test, I'm just getting easier questions? Are these scores in any way reliable in judging my ability right now?I will take another
MGMAT Cat tomorrow to see how my Quant score comes out there. I will update this thread after that point.
I plan on taking another 2 tests next weekend. I have 2 resets of the GMAT Prep Exam pack 1 left, and 2 more
MGMAT Cats. I don't know which one would serve as better practice. In between, I will be going through questions on the
OG to practice, and will likely devote a couple of days to certain topics that I feel I still need work on. Then it's D-day all over again.
If you have gone through a similar predicament, I would love to hear from you. I'd like to settle my nerves as much as possible before the real test and these results are getting to me.
UPDATE: I just did another
MGMAT CAT and came out with Q45.
So far on
MGMAT CAT: Q45, Q45, Q45.
GMATPrep : Q48, Q49
What is going on here? I have no idea which is more indicative. The
MGMAT CATS are much harder in my opinion but everyone thinks otherwise!
