For every 15 hours, gasoline used by a small motor= $$\frac{27}{8}$$ gallons

.................1 hour......................................................= $$\frac{27}{8*15}$$

.................24 hour....................................................= $$\frac{27}{8*15}$$*24= $$\frac{27}{5}$$= 5.4

$$Answer: E.$$

You can set up a proportion:
$$\frac{Hours}{Hours}=\frac{Gallons}{Gallons}$$

$$\frac{24}{15}=\frac{X}{(\frac{27}{8})}$$

$$\frac{24}{15}=\frac{8X}{27}$$

$$\frac{1}{5}=\frac{X}{27}$$

$$5X = 27$$

$$X = \frac{27}{5}=5.4$$
gallons

NOTE: The proportion's numbers are easy to cancel. You cannot cancel diagonally. Factor out an 8 from both numerators, thus:$$\frac{3}{15}=\frac{X}{27}$$.
Then factor out a 3 from LHS fraction, thus proportion becomes:$$\frac{1}{5}=\frac{X}{27}$$

We can use the following proportion where x = the number of gallons of gasoline the motor use per day (recall 1 day = 24 hours):

(27/8)/15 = x/24

24(27/8) = 15x

81 = 15x

x = 81/15 = 27/5 = 5 ⅖ = 5.4
