A well 100 meters deep is drilled at the base of a mountain 1000 meters high whose peak is 2,000 meters above sea level. How many meters above sea level is the botttom of the well?

(A) 900
(B) 1000
(C) 1100
(D) 1900
(E) 2100

From the top of the mountain..
a. Sea level is at 2000 m depth.
b. Bottom of mountain is at 1000 m depth.
c. Bottom of well is at 1000 + 100 = 1100 m depth.

So, bottom of well is 2000 - 1100 = 900 m above sea level..

If the mountain is 1000 meters high and its peak is 2000 meters above sea level, its base is 2000 - 1000 = 1000 meters above sea level.

Since the well is 100 meters deep and it’s drilled at the base of the mountain, the bottom of the well is 1000 - 100 = 900 meters above sea level.
