So Haas sent me a mail asking me to schedule a 20-minute career assessment phone conversation with one of their career management people, to help with the following:

# Personalized discussion about your professional goals and objectives
# Guidance as to career options and opportunities in your area(s) of interest
# Individual feedback on areas for development
# Full description of our resources and services

This is pretty cool of them. Any other schools doing this?

I just had my R1 waitlist interview and I think it went very well. Perhaps this is wishful thinking, but have waitlisted applicants every received scholarships once getting an admit?

Berkeley opens new Asia Business Center [#permalink]
Good for folks like me :)

New Asia Business Center to Bolster Haas School's Offerings in Asia

The Haas School is launching a new center focused on significantly increasing its leadership training for Asian business managers and expanding its research collaborations with Asian universities.

Several new partnerships with the National Taiwan University and the City University of Hong Kong will kick off the launch of the new Berkeley Asia Business Center this week. The center will build on and expand existing joint programs with the National Singapore University and Nanyang Technological University.

Professor Teck-Hua Ho launched the center and will serve as its director. He is traveling with Dean Tom Campbell throughout Asia from February 15 through March 1, 2008, to promote the center and to sign agreements for new programs.

The new center will enable the Haas School to expand its outreach to Asian alumni, business leaders, and academic communities. It will provide executive leadership training, advanced management programs, certificates on risk management, and business networking opportunities. Future targeted regions include mainland China, India, Japan, and South Korea. The advanced management programs will be offered in collaboration with the Center for Executive Development.

"In recent years, the Asian markets have taken the world by storm. They are now a critical part of the world's economy," says Professor Ho. "While there is great demand for management expertise and training, these markets also offer innovations that are changing the way business is done elsewhere. For the academic community this offers rich grounds for joint research."

Additional Haas faculty dedicated to teaching in the Berkeley Asia Business Center include Ganesh Iyer (marketing); Laura Kray and James Lincoln (organizational behavior); John Morgan and Andrew Rose (economics); Laura Tyson (public policy); and Xiao-Jun Zhang (accounting).

New programs being offered as part of the center's launch include:

Berkeley Asian Fellows:

A three-month executive training program taught at UC Berkeley for academic, business, and government leaders from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan. The 2008 participants will be known as the Wang Fellows, thanks to Stanley Wang, chairman, founder, and president of Pantronix Corporation, Fremont, Calif., whose gift will support this program in its first year starting in fall 2008.

Two new Advanced Management Executive Programs:

The National Taiwan University will host Haas School senior faculty members at its campus to promote research collaboration and to teach an annual one-week program in Taipei on the topics of leadership, marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship.

The City University of Hong Kong will partner with the Haas School to bring 60 business managers to Berkeley for five days of executive leadership training in marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship.

Berkeley Asia Leadership Conference:

An annual Berkeley Asia Leadership Conference will bring together the region's business leadership and feature outstanding CEO speakers and UC Berkeley business professors. The conference will be held in a different region in Asia each year. The first conference will focus on "The Family Business Challenge" and is scheduled to take place in Singapore in December 2008.

Toploader, actually on the waitlist chat, they said that waitlist candidates would not be considered for merit-based scholarships. Guess if we get in, it will be "full price" for us...

Yes, Super Saturday. I'm curious, does Haas provide an alternative method for interview (alumni, etc)?

I am located in SLC, Utah.

Yeah, they do alumni interviews and most bay area candidates are not invited to super saturday (it is more to allow those who wouldn't normally visit the campus see it).
