Hi Karadavid.

That huge score drop is quite surprising to say the least.

Would you please tell us what practice tests you used in each case you mentioned?

Exactly !
I was shocked myself because I analyse myself on a daily basis and keep a check on my accuracy.

And it’s just been 2 weeks since my last mock.

These are all official mocks.
The last mock was Gmat Official Mock 4.

Any advice will be appreciated, I’ve two weeks left.

Hi,

First mock:
I have been preparing for GMAT for good 10 months now (3-4 everyday).
The first 3-4 months, I used magoosh and Manhattan Books to get a holistic understanding of the exam and concepts.
Thereafter I gave an official mock and scored a 550 in January.

I analysed and realised that I was barely able to finish 18-19 questions in verbal and timing was a big issue for me.
I worked on timing, increasing my reading speed, and In quant, I figured out which concepts I am not clear on and studied them thoroughly; I learnt that there were a lot of them.

Second mock:
I then gave the second mock in May and got a 630.

Till this point I had been practicing from other sources, but hadn’t touched the OG questions yet.

Third mock:
May onwards I read multiple forums and realised that studying OG questions was extremely important and since then I focused rigorously on it.
I did 5 questions of SC, 5 of CR everyday and then analysed them thoroughly.
For quant, I started with Gmat club tests, and again I was very good with my analysis.

Everyday I would note down the level of questions I’m practicing and accuracy of the questions.
In 600-700 questions, my accuracy was between 75%-100%
And in 700+ questions, it was around 50%

So, I knew I’m not able to ace the hard questions as of now.

Apart from this I practiced 1 RC everyday, and got a good accuracy.

After all this hard work, I gave a mock and got 700.

I was extremely content, because I knew I’m going in the right direction by practicing OG questions and analysing them.
I again analysed my mock, and noticed I wasn’t able to solve the 700+ questions, so I decided to focus on them, watch some videos to learn those concepts, I was also weak in coordinate geometry, so I worked on fixing that.

Here my score was V35, Q49

Fourth Mock:

2 weeks later, after practicing 5-10 SC, CR questions everyday, doing 2-3 RC’s everyday, I started seeing a huge improvement.

Everyday I would practice 3-4 RC’s and in a timed manner, I would get a score of 75%-100%.

I also was able to solve the hard level CR and SC questions quite conveniently.

I was also doing well in quant on gmat club tests.

Then I took a mock again, and my score was 530!
V28, Q36

My exam is in two weeks.
I know skill and capability wise I am ready.

I’ve given around 10 months of dedicated practice.
I’ve constantly analysed my mistakes.
I’ve worked on substantially improving my reading speed.

This mock score was lower than what I got in January, when my preparation level was nothing.

I’m extremely disheartened and I really don’t know what more I can do.
Any advice would be really appreciated!!

Note - 1 different that happened in the last mock was, I stumbled on the first question of verbal and ended up taking too much time.

And in quant, I got a very hard question on my 2nd question which unknowingly I ended up giving 7 mins to and then had to slightly rush though.
However overall I was able to finish the paper, but I dint double check most questions.
Could this be a possible reason for the drop!

Assume the last test to be an outlier, pick yourself up and take another test. But before you do that, evaluate everything you got incorrect in this test very thoroughly. Ignore the score but understand why you made the mistakes you did - that way you will learn from your sordid experience. Also, spending more than 3 mins on any question is not justified. GMAT questions are written in a way that you can usually answer them within a minute. I would give myself 1 extra minute on a tricky one to wrap my head around it but that's about it. If you have still not got it after 3 mins, you are missing a point and its best to move on. I know the need to not mess up the first 10 questions but messing up the last 20 won't work in our favour either. So stick to the plan.

Might be worth doing another fresh mock once you feel up to it. Right now, analyzing what may have happened during your most recent mock may be helpful. Did you, in hindsight, perhaps rush through the reading component of RC, for example.
