OK agree its E.

Can some one explain waht "they" is referring to in E?

OA = E
I picked D for this problem. I didn't pick E because I feel "they" in D has no clear reference. However, it is probably the best choice out of all as the adj in D has no clear reference at all. I can see why "these" clearly refers to skills and "they" refers to students.

i guess E is not correct cuz 'they' has no clear antecedent..it may refer to skills or students..

I think they clearly refer to students
"that if students recognize and apply these skills, they"

students - subject skills - object
subject pronoun "they" will refer to students and not to skills.

Am I correct?

||ism brings you to DE. E is much better because it establishes who is doing the action here.

D: is ambigious.

Critical-thinking instruction is predicted on two assumptions: that there are clearly identifiable thinking skills that students can be taught to recognize and apply appropriately, and if recognized and applied, students will become more effective thinkers.

A. if recognized and applied, students
B. if these skills are recognized and applied, that students
C. if students recognize and apply them, that they
D. that if recognized and applied, students
E. that if students recognize and apply these skills, they

E for me too. for // ism

Two assumtions - that and that and the second reason is it clearly states that its the students who recognize and apply these skills
