E, because we don't require noun (identification) to describe the subject. Subject itself will act as noun. This is what I think.

but isn't "identity" a noun too?

You are absolutely right. I am making a complete mess but still let me try, "Identification" will be something like "act of identifying", whereas "identity" is the distinguishing feature of a person (noun). Not sure whether this makes sense but I am not able to think of anything else. :oops:

hmmm....I don't think you're right. Both have the same meaning. The only reason I chose "identity" is that it's more concise than "identification."
