I would pick E because "identity" sounds more concise than "indentification." But honestly, the way how this question is written is not representative to the quality of the question on the real GMAT.

E, because we don't require noun (identification) to describe the subject. Subject itself will act as noun. This is what I think.

You are absolutely right. I am making a complete mess but still let me try, "Identification" will be something like "act of identifying", whereas "identity" is the distinguishing feature of a person (noun). Not sure whether this makes sense but I am not able to think of anything else.

hmmm....I don't think you're right. Both have the same meaning. The only reason I chose "identity" is that it's more concise than "identification."
