Font Size on Essays

What is the general rule for font size when submitting essays? This particular school limits an essay to two pages rather than having a word count.

Is 10 too small? Would 12 be the standard? Would it be weird if I had a different font size for each essay, or should I stick with one font size for all of them?

id say 12 is standard... 11 is probably okay... but i would never go smaller than that.
i would definately keep all essays the same font size.

one more thing you can do is fudge with margins... make it 1" on each side (MSWord defaults to 1.25" on left and right)... but again, stay consistent on all essays

If you read hundreds of these things a year, you'll instantly know the difference between double and 1.5. You wont fool anyone. I've found I cant tell the difference between 2 and 1.95 though.

that's a good one, if you can actually gain an entire line of text do it... can you?

you could also probably drop to .97" margins or so.

But technically i'm not required to use double spacing - it's just "preferred".

I generally used 1.5 line spacing, unless the school asked for double. Several actually asked for 1.5 line (Duke if I recall).

I agree that 12 point Times Roman is a good choice. 1" margins all around works pretty well.

Crapolly. I submitted essays for Kellogg which stated "double spacing". Since it was the only school I applied to this year, I took that to mean "just don't single space" and used 1.5 spacing (on top of a 10 font). I didn't realize schools would actually specialize 1.5 had they wanted it... I know this is starting to sound really obsessive and trivial - but anyone think this was a big faux-pas and I could get crossed off cuz of it?
