I would like to speak about the very bad experience I had for the test day. After having performed well at all the tests (cf below), the actual test day arrived and my score went below my worst expectations.

I'm looking forward for any advice / help about what to do. Retake in the next days ? Retake in the next weeks ? I am leaving for work in roughly 3 weeks and I won't be able to pass the test again for a few months due to work constraints. Should i stop completely for a longuer period ?

Main facts / surprises of the exam :

- My appointment was scheduled at 9.30. The test center opened at 9.25 (did not impact my test, but already the day started not so well)
- AWA went well with classical subjects, the numerous essays I did in the last weeks helped a lot
- My pen did not work anymore after 20 minutes of quant, I then started to make silly mistakes for 2 or 3 questions. The second pen did not work much better but at least I could use it. I think this had cost me 1/2 points in quant.
- I thought the verbal went right until I saw my final score. Some questions in CR were not very clear for me and I had to guess on 2 of them.
- Quant questions were without surprise and at the level of GMATprep. One step less difficult than MGMAT ones
- The tricks given in the "Thursdays with Ron" concerning the timing helped me to finish with 1 minute of margin for each part, so no timing problem.

Finally got a dispointing 650 Q47V32.

My scores were :

GMATprep1 740 Q50V41 (re- taken 2 days before the test,some questions were the same as the first time so I consider it cannot be taken into account)
MGMAT6 730 Q50 V39 (taken 3 days before the test)
MGMAT5 700 Q45 V40 (taken 4 days before the test)
MGMAT4 680 Q46 V37 (taken one month before the test)
GMATprep2 710 (I do not have the splits anymore due to a crash of my computer) - (taken 3 weeks before the test)
GMATprep1 640 - taken two months ago.
MGMAT123 taken at the begining of my preparation with score ranging from 620 to 690 some months ago.

Any help is welcome.

You can not take GMAT within 30 days of 1st attempt.

Exact mba.com words: "You may take the GMAT exam once every 31 calendar days and no more than five (5) times in a rolling 12-month period."

650 is not that bad, but I can understand your state. Hope you do better next time.

1. You can only take the exam once every 31 days, and 5 times in any 12 month period.
2. Take the exam at a time when you know you'd be awake. I always took every GMAT between 2 and 4 PM. If you're an early riser, great, but I probably would still be half asleep if i started the test at 8 AM which is when most exams were available.
3. Always check your pens before entering the room. Should one of them be faulty right then, you could have gotten a new pen right then.
4. You will always have to guess on some questions on the GMAT, verbal or math. Get basic concepts and patterns of correct and incorrect answers on critical reasoning for verbal and it should help increase your score there.

One last piece of advice to OP.

Don't take entire tests as your primary mode of study. Taking them once a week is plenty. I started at a 540 or so when taking this test blind, but I built up the test taking skills with time.

Focus more of your study on honing strengths and bolstering weaknesses.
