Hi,
I have just finished my first gmat attempt and scored a very disapppointing 570 (Q48, V22)
I have started to study mid-october.
In january, my latest 3 tests gave:
GMAT PREP 640 (Q46, V32)
MGMAT 670 (Q46, V35)
GMAT PREP 610 (Q46, V28 I think) – last Friday
The Q score reflects the preparation (thanks to
gmatclub tests) but the verbal not at all. And to be honest I do not feel consistent on this section. I am very frustrated by my score because this is my worse score ever... Even end october I scored 23.
And even more frustrated as my AWA went all right (and for a non-english native speaker it is not a piece of cake), my Q part was good and I screwed the total score by failing in the verbal section.
I plan a retake around mid-March in order to be on time for R4 (LBS), which is 21st of April.
In the meantime i am looking for help to improve and be more consistent in the verbal section, WITHIN ONE MONTH...
1/ SC and CR (
mgmat and powerscore books) : I feel like I was doing better, after hours of practice, practice and practice. And results were there. My aim was to answer correctly in about 1min 1m30 in order to allocate more time to my weakest part, RC...
But it looks like today I made a lot of them wrong (too fast ?)
2/ RC (several strategies from several books)
I have tried 2 techniques from books or forums:
2.1/ READ THE PASSAGE ENTIRELY and write down some notes. Surely, I grasp more but I can not finish the section on time and by far.
2.2/ READ the 1st § , the first sentence of all other paragraphs and the last one ENTIRELY and skim over the rest of the text. I feel like I do not grasp enough and end up with very random results. This is the technique I used this afternoon.
I also have noticed that these boring and tedious passages can easily pull me away after couple of sentences. (concentration issue ?)
My question is: What is the right balance ? Or what must I do to be more consistent ? What am I doing wrong ? Because I honestly feel like I am not that dumb in english (I live and work in an english speaking country for almost 4 years now) but the result is here : V22 !!!
3/ Should I go for verbal intensive lessons for the next month with a personal teacher if it does exist ?
4/ I know and understand that reading books help but within one month , I can neither learn all grammar rules nor read tons of books ? Can I ?
OR should I just say to myself that I had a bad day and keep on studying, focusing more on verbal and give it another attempt next month without worrying too much...
Any help would be welcome because tonight I just feel like giving up. Thanks guys
