This is my suggestion only:

sq

e.g 4sq

It would be great to have this thread on the sticky board so that the newbies know what the symbols mean.

I agree, i've avoided this section because I had no idea how to read in-depth equations.

Hi Melie19 and welcome :)

^ is used to express an exponent. For example, 3^2 = 9.

Thank you SO MUCH!

For some reason i couldn't figure that out; but I appreciate you taking the time out.

Re: Help with Symbols??? [#permalink]
and for those of you other comms grads with no real memory of math, but a definite fear; here's a bit more on exponents:

The power to which a number or variable is raised (the exponent may be any real number).

from: https://www.nmlites.org/standards/math/glossary.html

use it for other math terms too; so far the easiest i've come across.

Hi Fig,

As a senior blogger here, do you know of a file that might have all the symbols defined? Especially in the instance of a forum like this? That way we can share the wealth and maximize GMAT club resources.

Let me know

No, I have never seen such file, sorry :)

Actually, the number of these symbols is not huge and the most important ones are probably already given to u now ;)
